Faculty of Arts and Design student representative nominees
Khyll ST Clair
Summary:
Ensure that all students from FAD graduate with the confidence they need in order to succeed in the workplace.
Use his experiences to provide a better outcome that will benefit everyone.
Ready to stand up and make positive changes to ensure UC supports students to better their futures.
Hi, I’m Khyll. The degree I’m currently in is Bachelor of Building and Construction Management, the reason for undertaking this was because of my interest in the built environment. I completed my apprenticeship and then went onto university to expand my knowledge.
Why are you running for the SRC?
I am running for the SRC to make a change in the Faculty of Arts and Design. The degree I am currently studying has shown many examples of outdated and repetitive assignments alongside lazy unit outlines and preparation. We are paying a lot of money to better our futures and yet the University does not always support us and therefore needs the student voice to give us a better chance in the workforce.
What is your vision and why are you the best candidate for the position?
My vision is to ensure that all students of my faculty graduate with the confidence they need in order to succeed in the workplace regardless of degree. I am the best candidate as I have experienced first hand many of the issues with my university degree and I am ready to stand up and make positive changes. My experiences will also push me harder to provide a better outcome that will benefit everyone.
Josephine Julian
Summary:
Listen to the concerns of students and be their voice.
Ensure that student issues are brought to the executive level.
Create opportunities for students to come to the UCSRC with issues.
Make UC a safe and supportive space where they can be themselves.
Hi! My name is Josephine, and I am running for the 2021 UC Student Representative Council for my second term. I am a graphic and web designer studying a Bachelor of Visual Communication and Interactive Design. I am obsessed with pop culture, playing bass in my band, pop vinyls, music, and all things design.
I have fallen in love with the UC community and have dedicated my time to improve the student experience. This not only involves my work with the UCSRC but, I am also a student mentor and involved with multiple club committees, most notably founding the UC Design Society where I remain the current president.
Why you are running for the SRC?
I truly love UC, our students, and how diverse our community is. Being a student at UC is not always perfect and there are times where systems break, unfair decisions are made, and students are not consulted regarding key issues. The important thing is that when these things do happen, people stand up and have their voices heard. I am running for the UCSRC as I am passionate that our student voices are heard.
As a student myself, I understand how sometimes it can feel like you are not listened to. Sometimes you feel forgotten about or that you don’t matter. I believe that we all matter and have the power to stand up for what we believe in. Our student voice is vital to the key decisions that impact our student experience.
What is your vision and why are you the best candidate for the position?
My goal for the UCSRC is to help strengthen the connection between students and executives. Students should be the key factor involved in decision making. If I am re-elected for the Faculty of Arts and Design position, I will ensure that student issues are brought to the executive so they can make informed decisions. I will also create opportunities for students to come to the UCSRC with issues.
I have performed this role to a high standard, carrying professionalism and integrity. My leadership skills and my passion for our student voice has driven me to work harder than I ever have before to not only fulfill the requirements of my role but, go beyond what is expected of me. This involves performing additional roles, including the media officer role, and sitting on multiple boards and committees as a student representative.
Like many of us, I consider UC home. This also means I am committed to working extremely hard to make our community a safe and supportive space where we can be ourselves.
