Meet your 2021 SRC: The Executives

The start of a new year at UC, brings with it many changes to campus life. One of those changes is a newly formed Student Representative Council, or SRC.
At the end of 2020, students voted to elect a series of student representatives, to represent students, their faculties, and their needs for the coming year.
As we head into semester one, we wanted to introduce you to the Student Representative Council for 2021, starting with the executive body.
Keisha Preston – President & Representative for the Ngunnawal Centre
Keisha is the SRC’s President and Ngunnawal representative for 2021. As Ngunnawal representative she represents the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander student body. She is a proud Gamilori and Wiradjuri woman, and her mob comes from Walgett and Bathurst. She is currently studying a Bachelor of Communications and Media (Marketing Communication) and is in her final year. One goal she has for 2021 is to provide support and opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, and improve the relationship between students and the Ngunnawal Centre.
Eloise Robertson – Vice President & Representative for the Faculty of Science and Technology
Eloise is the SRC’s Vice President and Representative for the Faculty of Science and Technology for 2021. She is currently studying a Bachelors of Software Engineering (Cyber Security) and she is elated to be in a position that allows her to make a significant impact on the day to day lives of students and the community.
With a keen interest in disability advocacy, she is looking forward to woking with the university to improve services and initiatives that will help break down barriers. She is the founder of ‘Supporting Women in STEM (UCSWIS), and as a person with a disability herself, she knows the value of being heard and the vitality of supporting individuals, so she hopes to be an advocate for every student this year.
Andrew Brain – Treasurer & Representative for the Academic Board (Undergraduate)
Andrew is the SRC’s Treasurer and Undergraduate Representative on the Academic Board for 2021. He is in his second year of a Bachelor of Commerce (Financial Planning) and is also the Treasurer of the Canberra Business Society at UC.
In his role this year he will review and advocate on academic matters along with managing part of your SSAF which is used to fund the SRC. His main goals for this year are to improve the communication between the SRC, student clubs and societies, and the wider UC community, along with advocating for the use proctorio to be optional in all invigilated exams.
Mustafa Ewasi – Secretary & Representative for International Students
Mustafa is the SRC’s Secretary and Representative for International Students for 2021. He is studying a Bachelor of Laws (Honours), and is passionate about social justice, human rights, and climate change. His honours is focusing on children’s rights, particularly the age of criminal responsibility. Driven by the goal of wanting to make UC an even better place, he has consistently spent time in leadership roles, from the president of the UCRAC to competitions director of the CLSS.
He hopes to deliver on his promises of enhancing student support, making UC a safe place, bringing all international students back to UC, particularly those left overseas due to the pandemic, and making proctorio optional. He is proud and grateful to fulfill the honour of serving as the secretary and a student leader for all students at UC.
